GIF Clipper v0.2.1 BookHockeys

Clip the moment while it's still live.

A free add-on for kick.com. Hit record, or grab the last 15 seconds after something happens, then trim, crop and caption it and download a GIF. Everything happens in your browser.

Needs a desktop browser with the free Tampermonkey extension. If clicking Install shows a page of code instead of an install screen, Tampermonkey isn't installed yet.

Set up in a minute

GIF Clipper is a userscript: a small add-on that runs on kick.com inside the Tampermonkey extension.

Add Tampermonkey

Install the free Tampermonkey extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Brave.

Install GIF Clipper

Click Install GIF Clipper above, then Install on the screen Tampermonkey opens.

Open a live channel

The launcher shows up in the corner of the player. Press Record, then Stop, and the editor opens.

What it does

Everything you need to turn a moment into something you can post, without leaving the stream.

Record or rewind

Record until you stop, or turn on the rewind buffer and grab the last 10, 15 or 30 seconds after the moment already happened.

Trim and cut

Drag the handles to keep just the good part, or cut a boring bit out of the middle.

Crop

Draw a box on the preview, or lock it to 16:9, square, 4:5 or 9:16.

Captions

Top and bottom text in classic meme style or as subtitles. What you see in the preview is what you get.

Boomerang

Plays forward then backward, so the loop never jumps.

GIF or WebM

GIF by default. WebM is a real video, usually 10 to 20 times smaller with full colour. Or get both.

Fits your upload limit

Pick 5, 8, 10 or 25 MB and the export shrinks the file until it fits.

Never lose a clip

Your last 5 clips are kept in your browser, edits and all, so a reload or crash doesn't eat your capture.

Private

No account, no uploads, no servers. The stream's frames never leave your computer.

Shortcuts

They need Alt, so they never fire while you're typing in chat. You can change them in the gear menu.

KeysWhat it does
Alt + Shift + RStart or stop recording
Alt + Shift + LClip the last 15 seconds (turns the rewind buffer on the first time)
Alt + Shift + GShow or hide the launcher
Space, ← →, I / OIn the editor: play / pause, step a frame, set the start / end at the playhead

Questions

Is it free? Does it upload anything?

Free, and nothing is uploaded. The add-on reads the video that's already playing in your tab, and builds the GIF or WebM on your computer. There's no account and no server.

Does it work on my phone?

No. Tampermonkey is a desktop browser extension, so you need Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Brave on a computer.

Why is my GIF so big?

GIFs are an old format and moving camera footage is hard to squeeze. Set a size limit, lower the width or fps, crop tighter, or switch to WebM, which is usually well under 1 MB for the same clip.

The launcher says "no player on this page"

The stream hasn't started in your tab yet. That's usually an offline channel, or a mature channel still showing its "I am 18+" screen. Once the video plays, the launcher wakes up.

Keep the tab visible while recording

Browsers slow down tabs you aren't looking at. If you switch away mid-recording, the launcher says so and those seconds are missing from the clip.

How do updates work?

Tampermonkey checks this page's copy of the script and updates GIF Clipper by itself. You can also click Install again at any time.

New in 0.2

  • WebM export (or GIF + WebM), set in the gear menu or per clip.
  • Size limit: the file shrinks until it fits.
  • Captions, boomerang loops, and Recent clips that survive a reload.
